> Aww, time elapses so fast here in Earth. I wonder who's the genius divided the time into hexagonal minutes, hours, and 23 hours 56 minutes everyday? So fast that I didn't even noticed it's almost August 17th - an important date for humans in the country I've been staying for 15 years, Indonesia.
//What's so important about 17?//
//Like sweet 17?//
//Oh, I'm 25 year old, since 1984.//
> No one's asking.
//So mean.//
> So sensitive.
August 17th is the Independence Day! It's made so to remember that they liberated themselves from Netherlands and Japs colony's tyranny and started building their own government at 17th August, 1945. And that didn't come so easily.
I started to know this when I was at one the Humans' Elementary School, Saint Ursula, at the history lesson. After reading the history, casualties by casualties, hero by hero, victory and losses, I must say, impressive and heroic. And for all Indonesians who think their country sucks (yes, it's hot, dirty and everything - but you also caused it!), love it now. Don't ask why, ask why not.
Started at 1596, the first colonist ship from a kingdom called "Netherlands", "Dutch" or something like that, arrived at Sunda Kelapa (now it's the BELOVED Jakarta). At the beginning, they seemed pretty helpful with the locals, but as they established more strength, such as docks, fortresses, and soldiers armed and dangerous, they started their Tyranny that lasts for...350 Earth years.
Suddenly, another force called "Japan" appeared, and kicked Dutch's asses from Indonesia. Of course, the Indonesians thought they were sort of hero or something. Were they?
No, they weren't.
Months after the celebration and euphoria, they proved that they were even worse than the Dutch. Starting with Romusha (another form of unpaid slaves), they proceeded with creating Indonesian - based army, and told them it's for their own goodness, although they were used to help Japanese soldiers.
Anyway, their empire wasn't so strong as it seemed, and they started eating losses per losses at wars with USA and friends. And finally the Japs surrendered. After years of struggle, Indonesians can't just waste this moment to be free, once and for all.
Working on background is Ir. Soekarno, Moh. Hatta, Mr. Ahmad Soebardjo and lots of others. Their result is :
Proklamasi
